General Information
Baraza Resort and Spa might be mistaken for a whitewashed sultan’s palace, with shimmering mosaic interiors, lots of creamy, carved marble and battered brass lanterns. It is wonderfully grand and Arabic in style, alluding to the past but modern in terms of comfort and design. There are big wooden drying pans of pungent, perfumed cloves. Guinea fowl scuttle past the long and languorous pool amid lanky palms and a blaze of bougainvilleas. It is this decadence – the private plunge pools, the lush gardens – blended with Swahili style that hits just the right pitch, perfectly walking the tightrope between local authenticity and high-end flair. This is the new Zanzibar – young, sexy, superbly private.
There are 14 one bedroom villas and 15 two bedroom villas, as well as one Presidential two bedroom villa. All the accommodation villas are designed to characterize classic Swahili architecture featuring dramatic arches, cement Baraza benches and intricate hand carved cement decorations. The spacious villas feature luxury interiors, beautiful fabrics, hand carved furniture and brass lanterns, large bathrooms with luxury fittings as well as a spacious terrace and private plunge pool.
The Frangipani spa in Baraza is an oasis featuring its own lap pool with underwater music, indoor and outdoor relaxation rooms. There is also a yoga centre, fitness centre and tennis court.
Location
Baraza Resort and Spa is located in the south east coast of Zanzibar Island.
