Lava Tower Camp
Positioned in the alpine zone, the camp is characteristically very rocky, barren, with only very small plants which are sparsely scattered throughout the immediate landscape. The Lava Tower is commonly frequented by climbers on the Machame Route and is used as an alternate route to Barranco Camp to assist with acclimatisation as it enables climbers to climb high and camp at the lower altitude. The Lava Tower Camp is used as an overnight stop usually on the third night of the Shira Route.
The Lava Tower Camp is located in the alpine zone at an elevation of 4,600m on the Shira Route and a small diversion from the Machame Route.
