Day 1: Arrival in Arusha Town
Jambo!! Welcome to Tanzania! On arrival at Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport you’ll be personally met and escorted by one of our professional guides to The Arusha Hotel in the heart of Tanzania’s safari centre, where you will spend the night. Take some time to soak in the busy and unique atmosphere of Arusha. Activities include sightseeing, visiting the local sights such as the Tanzanite Experience Museum or browsing the local shops and the arts and crafts market where you may purchase work from local artisans.
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast you will be greeted by one of our guides who will brief you before setting out for your safari. The briefing will familiarize you with our vehicles and will cover safety tips that must be followed whilst in the National Park. After the briefing you will be driven to Lake Manyara National Park. Stretching for 50km’s along the base of the 600 metre high Rift Valley Escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting described by Ernest Hemingway as the “loveliest I had seen in Africa”. The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience. From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater where hundred strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and forest hornbills honk high in the jungle canopy. The park is world famous for it’s tree climbing lions which you may be lucky to observe. Highlights include thousands of pink hued flamingos, elephant, giraffe, large buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, baboons and blue monkeys. After a full days game drive you will be taken Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater
At Sunrise, we descend 600 metres into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World’. The rich pasture and permanent water of the Crater floor supports a resident population of some 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals. Since most of the Crater floor is grassland the predominant grazing animals are gnu, zebra, gazelle, buffalo, eland and kongoni. Within the crater rim expect to see large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn. the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Ascend the crater in the early afternoon to enjoy sundowner drinks and an overnight stay at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge on the rim of the crater.
Day 4: Tarangire National Park
Drive in comfort to Tarangire National Park for a full day of game viewing. The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. It’s natural vegetation consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals during the dry season. Some of the largest elephant herds in Africa can be seen in Tarangire, in addition to plains game and many predators. You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park(where you may get a chance to watch the local baboons at play) and will get a chance to explore the park thoroughly with a morning and afternoon game drive. Late in the afternoon we will make our way to your accommodation at Tarangire Safari Lodge where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Tarangire National Park/Arusha Town
After breakfast you will embark on a morning game drive in Tarangire National Park. Be on the lookout for lion and leopard who have been busy all night looking for prey. Tarangire boasts substantial populations of impala, giraffe and buffalo in addition to Thomson’s gazelle, hartebeest and reedbuck. The Tarangire River attracts animals looking for cool refreshment. There will be plenty of photographic opportunities provided by the parks diverse range of animals and birdlife. Enjoy the antics of the matriarchal elephant herds as they enjoy a mud bath to protect their skin from the harsh African sun. After a packed lunch you will make your way back to Arusha Town where the safari concludes. You may wish to add one of our optional activities as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek or you may just like to spend a couple of days relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar.
