Day 1: Arusha to Mahale Mountains National Park
Day 2 & 3: Mahale Mountains National Park
For the next 2 days you will arise to a delicious breakfast at the lodge. After enjoying breakfast you will trek to enjoy the habituated ‘M’ group of chimpanzees as they groom, squabble and delight you with their animated antics. The ‘M’(Mimikire) troop is numbered at approximately 56 chimps. During your hike to the chimps you will find yourself immersed in the sights and sounds of Mahale. You will return to Kungwe Beach Lodge to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon you are free to enjoy the activities offered by the lodge – these include boat safaris, kayaking, snorkeling and fishing(fishing is available at $85pp/per trip). The section of Lake Tanganyika that Kungwe Beach occupies has some of the best freshwater fishing in Tanzania. Here, you may expect to catch Nile perch and Yellow Belly to name but a few. In the afternoon sit back and sip a sundowner while being entertained by the baboons that frequent the beach area.
Day 4: Mahale to Arusha
On your last day you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast and you will sadly bid Kungwe Beach Resort goodbye as we make our way back to the Mahale Airstrip. The dhow cruise takes about 1.5 hours and you will get to take your last photos of this paradise. Enjoy an aerial perspective of Mahale as you fly over the mountains and head back to Arusha where your safari concludes. You may wish to add one of our optional activities as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek, or you may just like to relax and enjoy a beach break in Zanzibar.
