Safari at a Glance
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
You will arrive at either Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport where you will be met in person by a SafariHQ guide. You will be driven in one of our vehicles to your accommodation at Kia Lodge. You can choose to relax at the hotel or the more adventure minded may decide to explore the bustling city of Arusha. Take the opportunity to shop for souvenirs. You can find many examples of handicrafts at the local craft markets, such as colourful scarves, mekonde carvings, batik, jewellery and artworks.
Day 2: Arusha National Park
After enjoying an early breakfast at Kia Lodge you will be greeted by one of the SafariHQ professional guides who will brief you on the activities of the day before heading off on the first day of your safari. After the briefing, drive in comfort to Arusha National Park for a full day of game viewing. Arusha National Park is the closest national park to Arusha Town as well as Kilimanjaro International Airport. Not only is animal life in the park abundant, it is also one of the most beautiful and topographically varied parks in Tanzania. The geography of the park includes the majestic Mount Meru(Tanzania’s 2nd highest peak at 4566m), you will marvel at the beautiful Momella lakes and the Ngurdoto Crater which was formed some 15 million years ago! Wildlife you can expect to encounter include buffalo, elephant, hippo, giraffe, warthogs, antelope, zebra, blue monkeys and sometimes a rare sighting of the elusive leopard. Arusha National Park is also famous for its black and white colobus monkeys. These amusing primates are not only exquisite in their unique markings, they will delight you with their antics. As dusk starts to fall we will return to Kia Lodge where you can relax and enjoy dinner.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast we will make our way to Tarangire National Park. This park has some one of the highest densities of elephants in Tanzania, and it’s sparse vegetation is dotted by baobab and acacia trees making it a beautifully unique landscape. The park owes its name to the perennial Tarangire River and photographic opportunities abound when the many mammals of the park make their way to the water to drink. You may be lucky enough to encounter a herd of elephants frolicking in the mud and coating themselves to protect their skin from the sun, or giraffes reaching high into the acacia trees for a feed. You will enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation at Tarangire Safari Lodge.
Day 4: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, enjoy an adventure packed day of game driving in Tarangire National Park. Beside herds of elephants you can also expect to see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik dik, impala, warthog, reedbuck. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal. Retire to Tarangire Safari Lodge to enjoy a sundowner while taking in the many colours of the setting sun over the Tarangire landscape.
Day 5: Lake Manyara National Park
After a relaxed breakfast you will enjoy a panoramic morning drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This park is a must to visit and boasts a diverse and varied terrain in a relatively small area. The park stretches along the base of the 600 metre high Rift Valley escarpment. Lake Manyara covers two thirds of the park. Incredibly, the other third of the park homes a variety of animals, which are supported by open savannah grassland with rocky outcrops, marshes and acacia woodland. The park is famous for tree-climbing lions and a huge variety of birds including flamingo. Other animal found here are buffalo, zebra, hippo, leopard, elephants and giraffes. You will enjoy spectacular panoramic views, dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park/Maasai Boma
After enjoying breakfast we will depart through the rolling hills of the Ngorongoro Highlands to visit a traditional Maasai boma. Here you will be greeted by the Chief who will guide you around the boma and explain the culture of the Maasai people. After saying goodbye to the Maasai, you will enjoy lunch en-route as we head towards the world famous Serengeti National Park which is unequalled for its beauty and scientific value and has come to symbolize the classic African Safari. The vast, endless grass plains are among the richest grazing grounds in Africa, making it home to some of the largest herds on the planet. With more than 2 million wildebeest, 500,000 Thomson’s gazelle, and 250,000 zebra to name but a few, the wildlife population of this park is simply staggering. Throughout the year, the huge wildebeest and zebra herds move in a clockwise direction around the plains, searching for fresh grazing grounds. Enjoy an overnight stay at your accommodation at Seronera Wildlife Lodge.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park
Today you will enjoy a full day of game driving in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular National Park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa. As the sun rises on the Serengeti Plains you will enjoy breakfast while anticipating the wondrous sites that are in store for the day. The day will be spent enjoying a game drive exploring the vast plains and woodlands of the Park. Expect to spot a large variety of wildlife including zebra, wildebeest, lion, giraffe, dik dik, impala, gazelle, buffalo and hippo it is not uncommon to encounter an elusive leopard, playful lion cubs or friendly and inquisitive elephants. Lunch can be packed and taken with you, or you can opt to have a hot lunch prepared for you back at Seronera Wildlife Lodge. In the afternoon return to the lodge for a well earned sundowner before your evening meal.
Day 8: Serengeti National Park
Rise early to enjoy an early morning game drive in the Serengeti. The early morning sunlight provides ideal photographic opportunities to capture the vast beauty of this pristine landscape. The nights predators may still be on their last prowl before retiring to rest and recharge before their next nights hunt. Be on the lookout for lion, cheetah, hyena, leopard as well as herds of zebra, elephant and giraffe. Return to your accommodation at Seronera Wildlife Lodge.
Day 9: Ngorongoro Conservation Area/Olduvai Gorge Museum
Enjoy a game drive en-route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We will stop at Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mark Leakey’s famous discoveries of man’s ancient ancestors, the Zinjanthropus Bosei. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic views as we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and arrive at your accommodation at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge. Relax and enjoy the view before enjoying your evening meal.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater/Arusha Town
Today you will enjoy a full day of action packed game driving in the world famous Ngorongoro Crater. The Crater is a world heritage site and the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is commonly referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. The 2,000 feet high walls of the approximately 10 mile wide crater create a natural amphitheatre for the densest populations of large animals anywhere in the world. With a resident population of over 25,000 mammals, you are sure to be overwhelmed by the abundance of wildlife that exists within the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is a microcosm of the African safari experience and in one day it is possible to see a staggering array of wildlife including all the big carnivores. With abundant and easily accessible wildlife the Ngorongoro Crater is truly awe inspiring with a strikingly majestic and sublime landscape. In the early afternoon we bid the Ngorongoro Crater farewell as we head towards Arusha where you safari concludes. You may wish to add one of our optional activities as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek or you may just like to spend a couple of days relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar.
