Safari at a Glance
Day 1: Katavi National Park
This morning you will be met by a SafariHQ guide who will transfer you to Arusha Airport to board your flight to Katavi National Park, arriving at your luxury accommodation Chada Katavi in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Katavi National Park is the ultimate off the beaten track safari adventure. With only a few hundred visitors per year Katavi provides thrilling game viewing opportunities. The size of the herds has to be seen to be believed and you are always aware that you are in one of the last remaining wild places on earth. Your accommodation at Chada Katavi, is the perfect place to return after an action packed game drive. Steaming hot showers await you, with a bottle of chilled wine on your porch table to enjoy a much earned sundowner before your evening meal.
Day 2 & 3: Katavi National Park
Over the next 2 days you will explore this remote and untouched national park with bush walks and games drives in an open top vehicle. See why Katavi is one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa. The valleys and plains around the camp are teeming with wildlife and offer large concentrations of crocodile and hippo. Hippopotamus mass along the creeks, and elephant shake fruit from the great borassus palms. Observe some of the largest herds of buffalo on earth, perhaps with lion, hyena and leopard in pursuit. Katavi offers spectacular scenery and a wild and traditional safari experience. Indulge and relax at your accommodation at Chada Katavi.
Day 4: Mahale National Park
Depart by air to Mahale National Park and Greystoke Mahale Camp, overlooking Lake Tanganyika. Mahale National Park is famous for containing some of the last remaining wild chimpanzees in Africa. With the nearest road some 100 miles away, the area surrounding Greystoke has remained largely untouched. Watch from you accommodation as chimps scuttle along the beach and entertain you with their always animated antics. You can also enjoy a sunset cruise on a traditional dhow.
Days 5 - 7: Mahale National Park
This most isolated of setting is home to the worlds largest known population of chimpanzee. Observe them playing, foraging, grooming and hunting in the forested slops of the Mahale Mountains. Besides its world famous chimps the Mahale forest is home to a breathtaking array of birds, mammals and reptiles including 9 different primates. You can expect to see leopard, bushbuck, bush pig and colour bird and butterfly during the day. Your time at Mahale can be spent enjoying a plunge into the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, where you can swim along the colourful tropical fish that call this lake home, or you can explore the mountains, streams and waterfalls that characterise this truly jaw dropping location. Day 8: Flight back to Arusha
After breakfast, you will bid farewell to Mahale and its resident chimp population and be transferred to the airstrip to catch your flight back to Arusha where your adventure concludes.
