Safari at a Glance
Day 1: Arusha
Day 2: Lake Manyara
You will be meet at your accommodation by one of the SafariHQ guides, who will provide you with a safety talk and a run down of the days itinerary. You will then enjoy a panoramic morning drive to Lake Manyara National Park, arriving at your accommodation at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge in time to enjoy a hot lunch. After lunch you will enjoy an afternoon game drive. Lake Manyara National Park boasts a diverse and varied terrain in a relatively small area. The park stretches along the base of the 600 metre high Rift Valley escarpment. Lake Manyara covers two thirds of the park. Incredibly, the other third of the park homes a variety of animals, which are supported by open savannah grassland with rocky outcrops, marshes and acacia woodland. The park is famous for tree-climbing lions and a huge variety of birds including flamingo. Other animal found here are buffalo, zebra, hippo, leopard, elephants and giraffes. At the end of the day enjoy a sundowner back at your accommodation at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.
Day 3: Lake Manyara
After breakfast you will further explore Lake Manyara National Park on a game drive. We will return for a hot lunch back at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at your accommodation or you can opt to visit an orphanage, enjoy a coffee plantation tour, do some birdwatching or just relax and enjoy the view. At dusk you can enjoy a sundowner before your evening dinner. After your meal you will be boarding a safari vehicle to enjoy a night game drive, where you can observe Africa by night. This is an experience not to be missed.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Highlands
This morning can be spent exploring the nearby Mto wa Mbu village. The village is considered a melting pot of various tribes in Tanzania. Try your hand at bargaining with the local store holders at the markets, pick up some authentic souvenirs or just immerse yourself in the culture. Lunch will be enjoyed at Gibb’s Farm in the Ngorongoro Highlands. After a relaxing lunch the choice of afternoon activities includes a coffee plantation tour, visiting a local orphanage, or a bird watching tour. Or, for those wanting to relax and unwind you can choose to relax at your accommodation at Ngorongoro Crater Serena Safari Lodge. Enjoy sundowners while watching the sunset.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
At sunrise we descend 600 metres into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. The rich pasture and permanent water of the Crater floor supports a resident population of an estimated 25,000 mammals, you are sure to be overwhelmed by the adundance of wildlife that exist within the crater at any one time. You are likely to see large herds of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle. There are also large numbers of lion and spotted hyena resident in the crater. The dense forest on the slopes and rim of the crater provides shelter for elephants and the endangered Black Rhino. Dinner and overnight stay at Ngorongoro Crater Safari Serena Lodge.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park
Today, we will make our way to the world famous Serengeti National Park and your accommodation for the next 3 nights at Serengeti Serena Lodge. En-route we will visit a Maasai Boma where you will get the chance to see the Maasai performing their traditional dances. You may even get a chance to join in! The Serengeti is characterized by spectacularly abundant concentrations of wildlife, stunningly beautiful landscapes and vast pristine areas making the Serengeti one of the most exciting parks to visit in Africa. Arrive at your accommodation at Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge in time for sundowners.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park
Spend a full day exploring the vast Serengeti plains. You will rise early to enjoy an early morning game drive. At sunrise you may encounter animals grazing in the beautiful light of sunrise and predators may still be busy hunting before retiring to rest for the day. Sunrise on the Serengeti is not to be missed and extraordinary photographic opportunities will abound at this magical time of day. You have the option to return to your accommodation for a hot lunch or to opt for a packed lunch which can be enjoyed at one of the various picnic sites found in the Serengeti. After lunch you will continue on a game drive. Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lion. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are not too high. They rely on daylight and speed to catch their prey. Hippo pods can be seen in the bigger pools and rivers while crocodiles can be seen sunning themselves on the riverbanks. You will return to Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge in time to enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal.
Day 8: Serengeti National Park
This morning you can enjoy a morning game drive or you can rise early to enjoy a balloon ride over the Serengeti plains at sunrise(please note that the balloon ride is an optional activity and is not included in the safari price). The balloon will touch down, where you will be served a traditional champagne breakfast. Sunrise in the Serengeti is not to be missed and extraordinary photographic opportunities will abound at this magical time of day. You will return to the lodge to enjoy a hot lunch. After lunch you will continue on a game drive, or you can choose to relax at Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lion. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are lower. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge.
Day 9: Arusha Town
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before being taken to Seronera Airstrip for your connecting flight to back to Arusha where you will say goodbye to your SafariHQ guide and transfer to your next destination in Africa. You may want to add one of our optional activities as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek or you may just like to spend a couple of days relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar.
