The Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha

Meals: Dinner

On arrival at the airport you will be personally met and escorted by one of the SafariHQ guides to your accommodation at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. Surrounded by endless acres of berry-laden coffee bushes in Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, the Arusha Coffee Lodge is designed around the original plantation houses with luxuriant decor and stylish undertones of the bygone era. You can choose to relax at the hotel or the more adventure minded may decide to explore the bustling town of Arusha. Take the opportunity to shop for souvenirs. You can find many examples of handicrafts at the local craft markets, such as colourful scarves, mekonde carvings, batik, jewellery and artworks. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After enjoying an early breakfast at your hotel you will be greeted by one of the SafariHQ guides who will brief you on the activities of the day before heading off on the first day of your safari. You will enjoy a panoramic morning drive to the stunning Ngorongoro Highlands. Photographic opportunities abound as we drive through the highlands on the way to your accommodation Gibbs Farm. Here, we will enjoy a hot lunch before departing for a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full afternoon of game driving.  The park stretches along the base of the 600 metre high Rift Valley escarpment. Lake Manyara covers two thirds of the park. Incredibly, the other third of the park homes a variety of animals, which are supported by open savannah grassland with rocky outcrops, marshes and acacia woodland. The park is famous for tree-climbing lions and a huge variety of birds including flamingo. Other animal found here are buffalo, zebra, hippo, leopard, elephants and giraffes. Dinner and overnight stay at the luxurious Gibbs Farm.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Highlands

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning you have the choice to return to the Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive where you can choose to return to hot spots you may have identified on your previous game drive, or to explore new ground. Alternatively, you can choose to stretch your legs and explore the nearby Mto wa Mbu village where you can try your hand at bargaining with the locals in the markets, pick up some authentic souvenirs or just immerse yourself in the culture. Dinner and overnight stay at Gibbs Farm.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today will be spent on a full day game drive in the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. The rich pasture and permanent water of the Crater floor supports a resident population of an estimated 25,000 mammals, you are sure to be overwhelmed by the adundance of wildlife that exist within the crater at any one time. You are likely to see large herds of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle. There are also large numbers of lion and spotted hyena resident in the crater. The dense forest on the slopes and rim of the crater provides shelter for elephants and the endangered Black Rhino. Dinner and overnight stay at Gibbs Farm.

Day 5: Tarangire National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast we will head to Tarangire National Park, where you will enjoy an action packed day of game driving. Enjoy an enroute game drive to Oliver’s Camp where a freshly catered lunch is awaiting, before continuing your game drive for rest of the afternoon. This park is dominated by the perennial Tarangire River and is characteristically known for its giant baobab tress that stretch  and wind their branches into the blue sky. The most spectacular feature of Tarangire is its large elephant population. In fact, it has the largest population of any park in northern Tanzania. These gentle giants abound in excess of 3,000. Tarangire is currently experiencing and elephant baby boom and you will notice a lot of juniors and babies as members of  the herd.  Also expect to see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik dik, impala, warthog, reedbuck. Primates you may encounter are olive baboon, vervet monkey and bushbaby. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal. Return to your accommodation for a well deserved sundowner before your sumptuous evening meal at Oliver’s Camp.

Day 6: Tarangire National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today you have the option to enjoy an early morning game drive or simply take your time to enjoy the hospitality of Oliver’s Camp. You also have the option of  adding a balloon flight over Tarangire, which culminates in a champagne bush breakfast. Lunch will be spent at Oliver’s Camp, where you will be greeted with a freshly prepared gourmet lunch. After lunch you will continue on a game drive.  Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lion. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are not too high. Dinner and overnight stay at Oliver’s Camp.

Day 7: Tarangire National Park/Arusha

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast you may choose to enjoy a guided walk.  The walk is quite leisurely and you can opt for a short walk of an hour, or something longer in duration depending on your wishes. Alternatively, you may choose to enjoy a morning game drive in Tarangire. This will be your last opportunity to observe the parks diverse range of birdlife and wildlife that call this park home.  We will return to Oliver’s Camp for a hot lunch. In the early afternoon we bid Tarangire farewell as we head towards Arusha. You will enjoy your last night’s accommodation at the  Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Day 8: Arusha Town

Meals: Breakfast

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we head back to Arusha where you will say goodbye to your SafariHQ guide and transfer to your next destination in Africa. You may want to include one of our optional activities to your itinerary as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek or you may just like to spend a couple of days relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar.
