Day 1: Ruaha National Park
You will be met by a SafariHQ representative who will collect you from your accommodation and transfer you to Arusha Airport for your short flight direct to Ruaha National Park. The game viewing starts the moment the plane touches down as herds of giraffe and elephant quite frequently inhabit the area surrounding the airstrip. In fact Ruaha has the largest population of elephants in East Africa, currently reaching numbers of 10,000. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Ruaha River Lodge and an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge.
Day 2: Ruaha National Park
Today you will enjoy a full day of game drives. Ruaha National Park is a rugged wilderness that is characterised by dry slopes covered in dense woodland and wide open plains dotted with baobabs. Ruaha is an important refuge for the African wild dog. It boasts one of Africa’s densest elephant populations as well as vast herds of buffalo stretching off into the horizon. Cheetah can be found surveying the open plains and you may also spot one of the 20 prides of lions that roam the park. In the dry season(May-November) you may also choose to enjoy a walk with the park ranger. Walks leave early in the morning or at 4 in the afternoon. Return to your accommodation at Ruaha River Lodge in time to enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal.
Day 3 & 4: Selous Game Reserve
After a leisurely breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your short flight to Selous Game Reserve. You will then be transferred by car to Rufiji River Camp in time to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon you will enjoy a game drive. Your camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji River where you will be entertained by the different species of wildlife that inhabit its waterways. There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river. There are also hippo and crocodile that can be seen sunning themselves on the sandy bank of the river. You may also choose to enjoy a boat safari on the river, enabling you to drift quietly and observe the large hippo pods, elephants drinking on the shoreline or the many bird species that rely on this water source. You can also set off on foot, on a walking safari, sneaking up quietly on terrestrial game, or of course if you don’t feel that adventurous there is always the open top vehicle safaris. The choice is yours. You will enjoy 2 nights accommodation and activities Rufiji River Camp.
Day 5: Arusha, Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar
After enjoying breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight back to either Arusha, Dar es Salaam or straight to Zanzibar for some rest and relaxation on the beach before returning home. Take a look at our optional activities to decide your next destination.
